This week was another great week! Of course lots of challenges
but the longer I’m here the more I’m loving those. Sorry for how unorganized
this email will be, I will do my best to not ramble too much.
We had our first Skype lesson this week. It was such a great
experience! My companion and I taught a family who lives in Taiwan. They were
super nice and loved getting to talk with the missionaries. They took a picture
with us through the screen because I’m white, so that’s pretty funny. I was
really thankful for this opportunity, for all the opportunities that we have to
teach here. Love getting to meet and spend time with people all over the world.
Hope that they have been able to come closer to the Savior as we have met with
them!
This week was just filled with tons of blessings. For our
Tuesday night devotional we were visited by Elder Anderson! First off I am so
excited for General Conference, it is going to be a great one! Elder Anderson
talked about a lot of different things but he strongly encouraged all of us to
focus on spiritual things rather than physical things. He said to focus on the
eternal things and not as much on temporal things. He said " Your
spiritual experiences in life will make you who you are and who you need to
be." This was a very good reminder of what is important in my life and why
I am here doing what I am doing. Again so thankful for this opportunity!
At the end he walked around and shook a bunch of hands! Everyone
always sings at the end of devotionals and the spirit is so strong. As he
walked around I had an overwhelming feeling of how much love our Heavenly
Father and Savior have for each and every one of us as individuals!
Chinese is still coming slowly. That is ok though. Its hard
everyday but its really fun. We shared stories in Chinese one night this week
for class. It was really funny! It’s also really funny now that we can talk and
have no one else understand us haha. Not that we talk bad but you just don’t
realize sometimes that not everyone can understand Chinese.
We have met a few people this week. My companion and I have
started to pick up a lot of phrases in a handful of languages so that’s pretty
cool too. Still have lots to learn with my language though so focusing really
hard on that cause my time left here is really short.
We have been going to the gym a bit more which is fun. We have
so much food in our room now its ridiculous. The closets are just filled, so
its good we have time to workout or else it would be really bad.
So I have been built up a lot this week and don’t
really like it. Apparently I am always
smiling. According to everyone. Which is nice I guess. I try to be happy, I am
happy, even though it’s hard. And it’s so ridiculous all the elders talk about
my chest. haha. They don’t stop ever. They attribute everything good that
happens to my chest. ‘Oh we got in a short line, its because of Mao's chest.’ Haha
so ridiculous.
I got to do a lot of interviews this week too. That was a lot of
fun! My district is so willing to share and they all have such strong
testimonies. They have taught me so much. Kindness and a positive attitude can
go a long way. Its awesome how one person will help lift up the rest of us and
then within a short time it is someone else doing it! Being DL is good. All that it really means is more chances to serve
which means it’s a blessing to me. I think about that a lot. Everything we do
ends up blessing us back. Heavenly Father has rigged the system to always bless
us. It’s so crazy! Actually mind boggling.
Christmas is this Friday, means we should get
our flight plans. So that’s cool. Will most likely leave right after conference,
which is also super cool. It is going to be a great Conference!!! Everyone
should watch!!!!! At times I feel I’m not ready to leave. I have so much more I
want to learn. But that is selfish so I will go and be happy, of course I’m
excited to leave!! Feels like a bubble a lot here. All at the same time it is
so crazy to think that I’m already almost 2 months in. It’s scary. Mission life
is pretty much a constant roller coaster. Sometimes you are on top of the world
and others you feel like the world is on you and will never end. Luckily that
is what the Savior is for.
One last thing, so I heard a message from Elder Patrick Kearon
this week. On LDS.org he has a video called ‘To Love Them All’. My invite for
this week is to go on and watch that video!! It’s a good one. I love this
Gospel and am so thankful to be a missionary! I hope you all have a great week
and know how much I love you!!!!:)
